United States President Donald Trump announced a temporary 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, set to expire on April 27, and said he would host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House to discuss a permanent agreement.
From Israel’s perspective, the truce has been unsatisfactory. Officials believe it failed to fully meet military objectives and highlighted what they see as the unexpected resilience and strength of Hezbollah.
The United States has also expressed frustration, criticizing Israel’s military operations in Lebanon as excessive. Washington intervened twice to curb Israeli actions, first by requesting a halt to strikes in Beirut and later by pressing for the ceasefire now in place, raising questions about whether fighting could resume on multiple fronts once the truce ends.
