Netanyahu orders IDF to 'intensify blows' against Hezbollah amid surge in drone attacks

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Israel Defense Forces to intensify strikes against Hezbollah following a sharp rise in drone and rocket attacks from Lebanon. The military launched a new wave of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in eastern and southern Lebanon after drones struck Israeli communities near the northern border, killing a soldier and damaging civilian buildings.

A senior United States official said Hezbollah had ignored repeated warnings to halt its attacks, firing more than 1,000 drones and hundreds of rockets in recent days. Washington signaled it may support a broader Israeli operation, accusing Hezbollah of undermining ceasefire efforts and diplomatic talks between Israel and Lebanon.

Israeli officials acknowledged growing difficulty in countering advanced drones, some guided by fiber optic systems that are resistant to electronic interference. Military leaders described the situation as untenable, with pressure mounting on the government to authorize expanded operations as northern residents brace for further escalation.

The renewed fighting comes amid ongoing negotiations involving Iran and separate talks between Israel and Lebanon, both of which Hezbollah opposes. Israeli leaders vowed to continue and intensify military action, while Lebanese sources reported casualties and displacement following the latest strikes.
